In the Department for Intensive Care Medicine our specially trained team treats all patients in need of intensive care. All the latest methods and procedures of modern intensive care are available, in particular in the immediate period following major invasive surgery. If a patient’s medical condition necessitates that they have to be moved to the unit, the patient is transported in a special intensive care vehicle and accompanied by a physician.

We deal with all types of life-threatening emergencies that might occur at the MH. A round-the-clock Emergency Team is on hand to intervene at any place on the grounds of the clinic within a short period of time. We also operate from the Central Emergency Department, working with a multidisciplinary team to help all gravely patients injured who are brought to the MH. Our emergency service deals with offsite medical emergencies and we work closely with Dusseldorf’s fire department, operating emergency response vehicles with a physician on board which are in service 24/7 every day in the Gelsenkirchen,North Rhine-Westphaliametropolitan area.

We are responsible not only for the management of acute pain but also help patients with chronic pain. A specialized multidisciplinary team comprising physicians, psychologists and care personnel are based in our Outpatients’ Pain Care Unit.

Our high-quality patient care naturally prioritizes pain therapy as a cornerstone of palliative medicine. We employ a permanent multidisciplinary team of palliative care experts at the MH.

We attach great importance to training in every area and the main elements of our specialty, in particular anesthetics, intensive care medicine, emergency medicine, pain therapy and palliative medicine. It goes without saying that the training and education of our physicians is of paramount importance. To this end we have our own special training team. Part of this training involves a simulations team with numerous courses, team training events, etc. which are carried out in internal and external training sessions.

The Anesthesiology Department is a close working, interdisciplinary team. In addition to basic research, our clinic also carries out translational, clinical research in the fields of cardio-vascular disease, neuroscience and pain research.
